Privacy policy for Schemer
Schemer, a Chrome extension by Mono by Dusty. Last updated: 30 October 2026.
Short version: Schemer does not collect, receive or sell your data. It has no server and no account. Your settings stay in your browser.
Who is responsible
Mono by Dusty, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 97328200.
Postal address: Amsterdam, the Netherlands (full address available via the Dutch Chamber of Commerce register).

What Schemer stores, and where
- Your settings (dimmer, contrast, grayscale, “only when my system is dark”, “on everywhere”) and the list of sites where you turned dark mode on or off are stored in Chrome’s local extension storage (
chrome.storage.local) on this device. - For sites that are already dark, Schemer remembers per site and per system theme that it should leave them alone.
- Nothing is synced to other devices or sent to us.
Permissions Schemer uses
- activeTab: after your click or shortcut, to recognise the current site and turn dark mode on or off.
- scripting: to apply the dark style on the sites where you turned it on.
- storage: to keep your settings and your list of sites on this device.
- offscreen: to see whether Chrome is light or dark, so the toolbar icon fits.
- Optional access to websites: Chrome only asks for access to a site when you turn Schemer on there, and only for that site. If you choose “on everywhere”, Schemer asks once for access to all sites, and you can set exceptions per site.
Schemer does not read, store or send the content of the pages you visit. The only thing it looks at is the background colour of a page, to see whether the site is already dark. It cannot read your browsing history.
No analytics, no tracking, no remote code
The extension contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code and loads no code from the internet. This website does not use cookies or analytics either.
Your control
You can turn Schemer off per site and remove its site permissions in Chrome at any time. Removing the extension removes its data from your browser. Because we never receive your data, we cannot see, correct or delete it for you.
Children
Schemer is not directed at children.
Chrome Web Store: Limited Use
Schemer’s use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Schemer does not sell user data, does not use or transfer it for purposes unrelated to its single purpose, and does not use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have rights over your personal data. Because Schemer does not collect or receive any, there is normally nothing for us to give, correct or delete. If you contact us by email, we use your message only to reply and keep it no longer than needed. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above changes with it, and the extension’s behaviour will match it.
