Privacy policy for Kiek

Kiek, a Chrome extension by Mono by Dusty. Last updated: 30 October 2026.

Short version: Kiek has no server and no account of its own. Your captures stay on your computer. If you choose to connect Google Drive, Kiek saves them in your own Drive, and nowhere else.

Who is responsible

Mono by Dusty, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 97328200.

What Kiek does with your captures

  • A capture (selection, visible part or full page) is only made after you click the icon or use a shortcut. Kiek then reads the page you are on to take the picture and the visible text, so you can copy them.
  • The picture and text go to your clipboard. Your last 40 captures are kept in your browser’s own database (IndexedDB) on this device, so you can open them again; older ones are removed automatically.
  • Your settings (for example the name of your Drive folder) are stored with Chrome’s extension storage. Chrome may sync these settings between your own Chrome profiles through your Google account. Captures are never part of that.
  • Mono by Dusty has no server that receives your captures, your text or your settings, and cannot see them.

Google Drive (optional)

Kiek can archive captures in your own Google Drive. This only happens after you sign in with Google inside Kiek.

  • Kiek asks for two permissions: access to the files and folders Kiek itself creates in your Drive (drive.file, Kiek cannot see anything else in your Drive) and your email address (to show which account is connected).
  • Archived items are a picture (PNG) and, if you ask for it, a Google Doc with the text of the page. They get the page title, address and time in their name or description. Files are placed in folders you choose, optionally per month.
  • Everything goes straight from your browser to Google, under Google’s own terms and privacy policy. Mono by Dusty does not receive it.
  • Recognise text: to read text out of a picture or PDF, Kiek uploads it to your Drive as a temporary Google Doc, reads the text and deletes the file straight away.
  • Share link: only when you ask for it, per file, Kiek sets that file so that anyone with the link can view it.
  • The sign-in token is kept only for the current browser session. Your connected email address and a list of Kiek’s folders are kept on this device. “Disconnect” in Kiek’s settings revokes the token and removes them.

Permissions Kiek uses

  • activeTab and scripting: to capture the current tab after your click or shortcut, to show the selection overlay, to scroll the page for a full-page capture and to read the visible text.
  • storage and unlimitedStorage: for your settings and your last captures; full-page pictures can be large.
  • identity: to sign in with Google for the optional Drive archive.
  • clipboardWrite: to put the picture and text on your clipboard.
  • offscreen: to see whether Chrome is light or dark, so the toolbar icon fits.
  • Access to www.googleapis.com: to upload to your own Google Drive. Kiek contacts no other sites.

Kiek cannot read your browsing history, and does not look at pages unless you capture them.

No analytics, no tracking, no remote code

The extension contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code and loads no code from the internet. This website does not use cookies or analytics either.

Your control

You can disconnect Google at any time, and remove files from your Drive yourself. Removing the extension removes its data from your browser. Because we never receive your data, we cannot see, correct or delete it for you.

Children

Kiek is not directed at children.

Chrome Web Store: Limited Use

Kiek’s use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Kiek does not sell user data, does not use or transfer it for purposes unrelated to its single purpose, and does not use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending. Kiek’s use of Google user data follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have rights over your personal data. Because Kiek does not collect or receive any, there is normally nothing for us to give, correct or delete. If you contact us by email, we use your message only to reply and keep it no longer than needed. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it, and the extension’s behaviour will match it.
